Leaving on a Jet Plane

I'm getting ready for a business trip. I leave Monday. I'm not ready. My boss is whacked enough to send me to a client site directly.

I might still have my job when I get back home late Wednesday.

I'll be in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Wish for warm weather.

Who needs Mario Kart...

when you can have the real thing?

I was a very bad knitter this weekend.

Not only did I miss the very first meeting of The Knotty Knitters in their new location, but I didn't knit.

Not one stitch.

To add insult to injury, I did crochet. Would that I could show you pictures, but one thing was figuring out a pattern for a friend yesterday (left it with her) and the other is baby gift that I haven't finished yet.

So wanna know where I was on Saturday?

In bed ;-). Then up and off to an auction, then off to pick up this:

That is a new (okay new to me) 250CC Series Off Road Kart.

Hubby found it Friday night 20 minutes after the guy posted it to Craigslist.

We called dibs, which was good, since by the time we got there on Saturday, he'd already had 4 other inquiries.

We got it home. Hubby did the following:
  • oil change
  • brake fluid bleed and refill (they still need work)
  • antifreeze replacement
  • just generally made sure it was okay for me to take out the next day
Which leads us to Sunday.

Up way to early to head up to Middle Creek's Penny Pines campground to hook up with some friends.

Hubby had his quad and I had the Kart (it needs a name - my imagination is failing me right now) and our friends had dirt bikes.

Off we went and hubby had quad trouble, so I towed him back to camp. our friends let him use a spare dirt bike and off we went again.

Our friends were VERY nice and VERY tolerant of the newbie on the course. They kept waiting for me, and helping me around tight turns (let's just say they picked a less than optimal course for my first time out) and picking me back up when I flipped the thing (only happened once. Thanks goodness for helmet, roll cages and harnesses).

Like most motorized vehicles, it has a mind of it's own, especially in the steering category. let me tell you, I'll have some great arms and shoulders by the end of the summer if I stick with this thing. It's a total bear to steer.

All in all we had a blast. The kart was a nice solid ride for a great big chicken like myself, and I will never let Paul pick the trail again.

A Purple Party

In light of the Foster Parent stuff and Ken's mom visiting we decided to have a party this past weekend. Thankfully we chose Sunday, which dawned bright and beautiful and warm.

Warm enough for water guns and badminton
Not to mention RockBandIt was basically a 'Hey look it only took us four years to get the new house presentable for company so come on over and have fun and eat your heart out' kind of party. Oh and wear or bring something purple (but NOT wine) because well Ken's dad used to have purple parties and they were a lot of fun.

The doggies got banned to the office, but never fear, they got PLENTY of attention

I got to play with babies

There was a TON of food for everyone
Farmer Jeff and Susan stopped by and brought me green eggs and some Santa Rosa Plum Jam. Aren't they cute (Jeff and Susan, not the gifts which I don't have a picture of)?
So Farmer Jeff and Susan got to meet to whole motley crew and go home with a pound of Mom's smoked bacon and some of her ham hocks.

My mother in law is still here.

We still have a ton of food.

In spite of the fact that for almost every night this week there have been EIGHT place settings at the dinner table. Jamie came over last night (waving madly).

My fridge and both freezers are still full of food, in spite of watching people eat it.

Tonight is chicken cacciatore again. If you're hungry, show up around 7 and tomorrow night and the next night and every night until April 16th.

My waistline will thank you as will my husband's.
